Triple-glued plywood covered in canvas, heavily gesso'd, and painted with acrylics, then coated with Varathane

An ecranche is a type of shield used in jousting. It straps to the chest, leaving the knight's hands free to hold the lance and the reins. This one was made for my wife, the jouster. The Latin motto means "Know thy Horse."
